CANDACE SHAW:

THE WOMAN WHO MADE THINGS HAPPEN

1. What is your name? Candace Shaw
2. What is your zodiac sign? I'm a Taurus-Aries cusp.  I share a birthday with Hitler, which is not cool, and my birthday is also 4/20, the stoner high holy day, which is also not cool.
3. What do you do on www.popcultureaddict.com?  I designed the website; the navigation bars, front page, and logo are all my work.  I consider myself a graphic designer more than a web designer, and I'm awfully happy with the way this site looks.
4. What are you hobbies or interests?   Most of my interests are obscure and poncy-sounding, and you'd either roll your eyes or silently disdain me if I told you them.  My knowledge of Star Wars trivia secures me a little geek credibility, but other than that I'm mostly a nerd.
5. Who are your favorite celebrities? John Stewart, Dave Chapelle, Peter Mansbridge, Steven Colbert, Jeff Goldblum, Tim Gunn, David Bowie, Sandra Oh, Gael Garcia Bernal, Harold Parrineau Jr.
6. What celebrities that get under your skin?  Cameron Diaz, Kirsten Dunst, Sophia Copola (Seriously, does anything ever happen in her movies?  Or do pretty people just sort-of drift around aimlessly for two hours?) Tom Cruise, Elizabeth Taylor, Paris Hilton (I can't stand that she's famous for being stupid and rich and having sex with people.  I can't stand that she has an album.  And I feel bad for her - if she doesn't overdose on something or die in a car crash, she's just going to fade away.  And I never want to see her crotch again). I also can't stand  anyone who could be described as a 'model/host.'
7. Who are your celebrity crushes? Honestly?  Jeff Goldblum, John Stewart, Harold Parrineau Jr.,  Jon Spencer, Dave Chapelle.
8. What are your favorite films?  The original Star Wars trilogy, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Chaplin, Tombstone, The Labyrinth, Girlfight (I also have the guilty pleasure of loving Independence Day, Blue Crush, and Bring It On).
9. What films did you hate so much that you wanted to poke your eyeballs out just so you didn't have to watch them?  Most movies make me want to poke a fork in my eye at some point, but my most-hated movie currently is Marie Antoinette.
10. Which TV shows do you/have you follow?  Deadwood, Project Runway (I'm sorry, I love fashion!), The Amazing Race, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (It transcends TV! It's brilliant!), Scrubs (I apologize, but it's a very sweet little show), early Gilmore Girls, and ER.
11. Who is your favorite comic character?  Jesse Custer from Preacher. I have a crush.  Before reading Preacher, I couldn't understand why guys has a thing for Betty, Wilma, Sailor Moon... But now, I understand.
12. What is your favorite bands/musical performers?  Oh, music... that's so hard to pin down.  I looooove Prince, mostly, and my current favorite bands are like, Elliott Brood and The County Boys.  And The Rheostatics.  And C'mon, the most awesome rock'n'roll band evar.
13. What CD are you most embarrassed to admit is in your collection? Uhm, let's see:  I have the Sailor Moon Soundtrack.  I also have some medieval CDs that I actually do listen to.  And I love, love, love House of Pain's self-titled album.
14. What pisses you off?  Extremists.  People who can't handle power. People who express their own pain by causing pain in others. Hollywood.  Emotional addicts.  People who cling to outmoded ways of doing business (I'm looking at you, Hollywood!).  People who can't manage to figure out how to use a computer.
15. Who would win in a no holds barred to the death grudge match between Alan Thicke and Michael Gross?  Oooo, Thicke or Gross, hunh? I'd put my money on Thicke, unless Gross had rabies.  Then I'd put my money on Gross.
16. Do you know who Tommy Page is?  Only because Sam keeps talking about him.
17. Which Beatle do you identify most with?  John.  I too end up in relationships with people who convince me to do stupid things.
18. Who is your favorite Brady?  Mrs. Brady.  She's hilarious.
19. Who is your favorite Osmond?  Man, so many to choose from!  I'm gonna cop out and go with "2ndG," possessors of the lamest name and the most Osmondy of teeth.  I'm just no Osmond fan; sorry, Sam.
20. What is your personal definition of hell?  Trying to pick a favorite Osmond.
21. Leonard Nimoy's "Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" video.  What the fuck? That song pops into my head at odd moments all the time.  I'll be in the produce section of the grocery store, or hanging art in the gallery, and all of a sudden "Bilbo! Bilbo!  Bilbo Baggins.. he's only two feet tall!" will be running through my head.  What the fuck indeed, my friends.  The sixties were a strange time.
22.  Who is cooler?  Morris Day or Prince?  You'd be surprised how often I get asked that question.  Now, I know that Morris Day has 'The Time,' but I think Prince is kind-of a genius (albeit a crazy, crazy genius).  So I'm going with Prince.  I would like to learn how to do 'The Morris,'  however.
23.  Favorite personal quote? "Intelligence is nothing without delight."
24.  Who inspires you?  Oprah.  And James Cameron.  And Celine Dion. And Bea Arthur.
25. What else should we know about you?  I know how to eat fire, and I accept gifts of cash or precious stones.
